  • my new song

This song is adapted from a poem "Cages" by Alexander Zlotnik.  I arranged and produced the music. It is in the transcendental country blues genre.  Wait a minute, I don't think there is a genre of that ilk.

    Traps my Heart

Fed up one day I left my cage, flew like a bird into a mean'ol world, flew to a mountain perched on a stone. Heard the universe it cried and I moaned.

There ain't no cage made yet that traps my heart, traps my heart

Everything was moving, blown by the wind. Flash of lighting burnt my skin it burned right though me to my very core all that was left to see were ashes at my door.

There ain't no cage made yet that traps my heart

Sniffed wild flowers, colours everywhere, copper penny moon hung in the air.  My ashes blew out over land and sea. No thought of time or space worried me.

There ain't no cage made yet, that traps my heart, that traps my heart

There was no boundary, knowledge of the mind felt I was flying to a space without time. Freedom was everything, far as I could tell. Knew I was dying lord, but there weren't no hell

there ain't no cage made yet, that traps my heart, that traps my heart.

  • Bio: robert alan white

I was born in Fort Sill army hospital and spent my childhood in Fort Worth Texas.
I love Zydeco, Dixieland, Delta, Texas blues, and rock. Artists that have influenced me are Ray Charles, Thelonious Monk, Burt Bacharach and Jimi Hendrix.
These diverse influences have percolated into my songs.. I write music that is unique while simultaneously being pleasantly familiar.
Early in life, I began writing songs and that is where my current interests are. I do home recordings of my songs at home on a computer based studio. I've played popular hits and original music in road houses and night clubs around Texas/Louisiana. In Lafayette Louisiana, my band "Voyager" held the title of house band at the prestigious Bayou nightclub, opening for such name acts as Johnny Winter, Robin Trower and  Marcia Ball.
As a result of decades of song writing, I think I am starting to find the ability to express my deepest thoughts and feelings with heartfelt lyrics and haunting melodies that tend to linger with a listener long after the music has ended. While writing and recording music is certainly a joy, my song's impact is hopefully multiplied by my energetic performances at venues currently around the lower Mainland of British Columbia, Canada.
A reviewer once wrote this about my performance, "To put it simply, seeing and hearing Robert perform has all the thrill of watching a controlled demolition."
I continue to write, perform, and record my own unique brand of soulful ballads and funky-blues mixes that defy simple classification.  If you plug into my vibe, hearing is believing.
